Driver of the Year Finalist - Benito Alvarez

Benito Alvarez, a dedicated and experienced truck driver, was not always on the open road. His journey began in the small town of Floydada, Texas, where he spent 23 years working as a mechanic at Brown's Implement. Little did he know that his path would eventually lead him to become a finalist for Western Dairy Transport's Driver of the Year Award.

Benito's early career was spent fixing and maintaining trucks, a job he performed diligently for over two decades. His love for the open road was there from the start, but the opportunity to drive a truck was limited as his primary role was that of a mechanic. It was when the business he worked for closed its doors after 23 years that Benito decided to take a chance on a new adventure - truck driving.

One of the reasons he chose Western Dairy Transport as his new destination was the familiarity of their ads in the Thrifty Nickle, constantly seeking new drivers. Benito embraced this change with enthusiasm and quickly fell in love with the life of a truck driver. He expresses his gratitude to WDT for allowing him to be part of their team and pursue a career he had longed for.

Aside from his dedication to his profession, Benito's personal life has also been a source of immense pride and joy. He has been married to Carmen Suarez Alvarez for 23 years, and together, they have called Floydada their home for most of their lives. Their family includes two children: a daughter named Crystal Linda Alvarez and a son, Benito Alvarez III. Both of them attended Floydada ISD, with Crystal eventually graduating from Texas Tech with an accounting degree and working in Dallas. At the same time, Benito III pursued a career in Midland, working for a contractor affiliated with Atmos during the week and lending a hand at Take Five on the weekends. In addition to their children, Benito and Carmen share the joy of six grandchildren, four girls and two boys, who light up their lives and bring them endless happiness.

Benito earned the Gold Standard Driver Award in 2023 and has also been a volunteer firefighter, showing his dedication to the safety and well-being of his community. With 6 1/2 years under his belt at WDT, his experience and commitment to the job have made a significant impact. One aspect that sets Benito apart is his emphasis on the importance of pre-trip inspections. He understands that these checks are crucial for ensuring the safety of the cargo and everyone on the road. His meticulous approach to his work and his willingness to help and mentor other drivers have not only earned him recognition but also the respect of his peers.

For Benito Alvarez, every day on the road is an opportunity to make a difference and fulfill his responsibilities as a driver. He acknowledges the blessings of his life, giving thanks to God for allowing him to perform his daily duties to the best of his abilities. With his remarkable career, his dedication to his family, and his unwavering commitment to safety, Benito has proven to be a role model for drivers and a shining example of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Please help us congratulate him on becoming a WDT Driver of the Year Finalist!
